College hockey rolls into a new season this weekend. Former Waterloo Black Hawks will be playing in New England and Alaska and everywhere in between.
More than 30 Hawks will be skating for new college teams in 2024/25. That includes a large crop of freshman like John Mustard (Providence), Gavyn Thoreson (St. Cloud State), and Myles Hilman (University of Nebraska-Omaha). However, several other alumni took advantage of the NCAA transfer portal, including Logan Stein (Michigan), Emmett Croteau (Dartmouth), and Brehdan Engum (Boston University). The Ohio State Buckeyes are the most popular program with four former Hawks on their roster.
In all, more than 40 programs can put a Waterloo player in their lineup, including eight of the top ten squads in college hockey's preseason poll. Defending national champion and #1-ranked Denver still features Connor Caponi and Garrett Brown, even though Miko Matikka has signed an NHL contract with Utah.
