The Des Moines Buccaneers scored four unanswered goals to defeat the Waterloo Black Hawks 5-1 on Saturday at the MidAmerican Energy Company RecPlex in West Des Moines.
Des Moines' win produced a weekend split following a 5-3 Waterloo result on Friday. The Black Hawks ended their exhibition schedule with a 2-3-0 record.
Christopher Pinko put the Buccaneers ahead Saturday with the lone goal of the first period at 7:23.
Waterloo's David Sedlacek answered with his second power play tally in as many nights at 11:06 of the middle period. However, the tie lasted less than two minutes before Alexander Moltu Kionig put Des Moines back in front for good.
Shortly before intermission, the Buccaneers lifted the game out of reach with a pair of shorthanded goals during the same five-minute Waterloo power play. They added one more from Bradley Whang during a power play of their own midway through the third period.
USHL teams move into the regular season next week at the USHL Fall Classic in Chicago. The Black Hawks meet the Muskegon Lumberjacks Thursday and the Youngstown Phantoms Friday.
