There are several opportunities to trick-or-treat with (or near) the Waterloo Black Hawks during Halloween week.
The first chance is on Tuesday, October 27th in Cedar Falls. The Mall at College Square is hosting a Halloween Fun Night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Select Black Hawks players will be on hand from 6 to 7 p.m. In addition to scoring treats from participating stores, kids can watch
Hotel Transylvania on the mall's large projector screen.
Ahead of Saturday's Black Hawks game, there are two downtown Waterloo trick-or-treating opportunities. Starting at 8 a.m., kids can trick-or-treat while visiting the Waterloo Urban Farmer's Market, which is open until noon. Overlapping that, downtown merchants will host two hours of trick-or-treating from 10 a.m. to noon centered around Lincoln Park.
Make a whole day of it, and visit the John Deere Tractor & Engine Museum, the Phelps Youth Pavilion, or the Grout Museum for a break from the Halloween festivities between noon and the Black Hawks' 3:05 p.m. game against the Dubuque Fighting Saints.
Once you arrive at the rink, there will be more trick-or-treating opportunities on the Young Arena concourse. Kids will also be invited onto the ice at intermission for a costume contest parade with prizes.
Still need more opportunities to collect candy? Official trick-or-treating hours in both Waterloo and Cedar Falls are from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday night. Even if the game goes to overtime, you'll be back in your neighborhood in plenty of time to snag your favorite fun-size confections.
In addition, Friday night at the rink, the Hawks will highlight the Dia de Los Muertos cultural celebration. The game that night is at 6:35 p.m. Kids are invited to participate in free face painting on the concourse.
During both Black Hawks Halloween weekend games, families are invited to take advantage of the
Scary Good Deal. Get four tickets, four chuck-a-pucks, two trick-or-treat pails, and two fear-inducing goalie masks for $64. The deadline to order is noon on game day, but supplies are limited.
