A Weekend in Madison

For the second time this season, the Black Hawks will go on the road to face the same opponent on consecutive nights.  Waterloo visits the Madison Capitols Friday (7:05 p.m.) and Saturday (6:05 p.m.).  In late September, the Hawks captured a pair of 3-2 decisions on the road against the Fargo Force.  Meanwhile, Madison has only played once since a 3-2 overtime loss at Young Arena on October 10th.  Last Saturday, the Capitols bounced back to defeat the Chicago Steel 6-2 in Madison.  The Capitols and Green Bay Gamblers each have a league-high 29 home games remaining.

Eastern Orientation

Starting this weekend, six of Waterloo's next nine games will be against USHL Eastern Conference opponents.  If the Hawks win any of them, Waterloo would equal last season's victory total against the East.  The Hawks are currently 3-0-1 after going 4-22-3 against the opposite conference in 2025/26.  Waterloo's Eastern Conference wins last winter were against the Green Bay Gamblers (twice), U.S. National Team Development Program Under 18s, and Madison.

First Goals

Three Black Hawks scored their first goals of the season last weekend against the Des Moines Buccaneers.  Teammates saved the puck for Camden Langfeld after he netted his first USHL goal during the second period of last Friday's road win against the Bucs.  Later that night, Trevor O'Donohue scored; the 18-year-old forward had one goal last season.  Then Saturday, Troy Hunka's first USHL tally proved to be the game-winner when the teams reconvened at Young Arena.  Thirteen different Hawks have now contributed a goal in 2026/27.

Opposing Defensemen

The Black Hawks have allowed 15 goals during this season's first eight games.  Seven of those tallies have been scored by defensemen.  The disproportionate number of goals by defensemen represents 13.7 percent of the USHL total for all blue liners.  By comparison, just 1.8 percent of the 446 goals scored by USHL forwards have been at the Black Hawks' expense.

Recent Games

The Black Hawks took two games from the Des Moines Buccaneers last weekend.  On Friday in Des Moines, Trevor O'Donohue had three points (one goal, two assists), and Charlie Menard made 22 saves during a 5-0 Waterloo victory.  It was the first Black Hawks shutout since December 27th.  The rematch at Young Arena the following night also went to Waterloo, 2-1.  Troy Hunka recorded a goal and an assist, while Sebastian Charvat carried a shutout through more than 48 minutes, eventually finishing with 32 saves.
