This Saturday night, the Black Hawks will recognize Trainer Todd Klein for 30 years of service to the organization and Waterloo players.
Klein's longevity has put him on the bench for a career which has included working for three Waterloo different head coaches named Scott (six total head coaches). He has taped thousands of ankles while helping hundreds of players have everything they need – mentally and physically – to perform their best.
In addition to his expert knowledge of health and physiology, Klein takes care of innumerable other team needs. He organizes meals on the road, makes sure the bus is well-stocked with essentials for a long trip, and maintains relationships with the Hawks' various medical specialists. Monday mornings from midseason onward, you can even find him at a sewing machine mending holes and tears in the team's game jerseys.
Approaching 2,000 regular season games, Klein is a member of the Professional Hockey Athletic Trainers Society. He has also brought back medals from several international competitions, working on staff for USA Hockey squads at events including the Viking Cup, World Junior A Challenge, and Junior Club World Cup. During his time with the team, the Black Hawks have won three Anderson Cup regular season championships and one Clark Cup playoff title. The organization presented Klein with the Karen Wente Distinguished Service Award in 2016.
Join us as we commemorate #TK30 during Saturday's 6:35 p.m. game against the Fargo Force. The first 500 fans will receive a #TK30 Stress Puck courtesy of Doctor Richard Naylor's office.
