Where Are They Now Feature: A Remarkable Collection

Presented by Karen's Print Rite

The Black Hawks have already distributed thousands of pocket schedules this fall.  Tyson Foods presented magnetics schedules to fans at last Friday's game.  Lucky fans might have snagged a t-shirt, a frisbee, or a number of other commemoratives early this season.

There are always new additions to the never-ending array of collectibles, and keepsakes from Black Hawks hockey go back a long time.  Some of them – like a warm-up puck tossed over the glass from a favorite player – are likely to be treasured for a long time.  Others may lose their sentimental value for the original owners but find a second life and a new home.

Karen's Print Rite

Once described as a "world wide garage sale" (full credit to Weird Al Yankovic for that one), eBay includes an astounding number of interesting artifacts.  Here's some of what we found recently, connected to the team and many notable players (Note: we are ignoring the MILLIONS of trading cards posted for sale on the site…the mind boggles at the number of them on the market).

2025/26 Pocket Schedule

That same pocket schedule you can pick up for free at dozens of gas stations, banks, restaurants, or right here at the rink is more valuable than you thought.  The going rate is $1.60, plus a stamp's worth of delivery charges.  Don't ask us why the seller is from San Antonio.  Apparently Brock Schultz is more photogenic than Reid Morich.  Last year's schedule is only listed at $1.25.  We assume that will go up when Reid scores his first goal at Minnesota State.

Sam Rinzel Autographed Minnesota Puck

Speaking of scoring goals in college, Sam Rinzel was pretty good at that.  He had 10 of them at the University of Minnesota last season before joining the Chicago Blackhawks.  Rinzel's first NHL goal came during a game against the Montreal Canadiens earlier this month.  If you're a Gopher fan and feeling nostalgic for the good old days of 2024/25, a Sam Rinzel autographed puck featuring Goldy is $39.99.  No word on whether equipment manager and Minnesota alum Chris Kiefer has placed a bid.

Joe Pavelski Captain America Bobblehead

No former Black Hawk has scored more goals in the NHL than Joe Pavelski.  To be exact, 476 of them before he retired in the summer of 2024.  Pavelski's name also conjures up memories of his appearances during two Olympics.  The San Jose Sharks were thinking of Pavelski's Team USA connections when they released a "Captain America" Joe Pavelski bobblehead.  The hockey-comic book mashup features the Captain America shield and outfit, with a starting price at $13.99.

Brock Boeser Funko Doll

There are over 12,000 Joe Pavelski items on eBay, but Brock Boeser has an edge in that statistical category with more than 14,000.  Included are a healthy quantity of Funko Pop figures, capturing Brock's distinctive flow.  The ones we're seeing are still on the box (which of course contributes to collectability) and feature the high-scoring forward in his Canucks' gear.  Prices vary widely, depending in part on seller location.

Jason Blake Action Future

Sticking with collectible toys (we use that term loosely and apologize now to any hardcore collectors we might offend), Jason Blake was the subject of a Starting Lineup-like figure created by McFarlane Toys during his Toronto Maple Leafs days.  The 100-point scorer in Waterloo (1993/93) became the first Waterloo player with 40 NHL goals in a season (2006/07), then won the Masterton Trophy after overcoming Leukemia.  Blake can skate across your desk for less than $10, plus shipping.

Cal Petersen Bobblehead

Getting back closer to home, the Black Hawks issued a Cal Petersen bobblehead to lucky fans in attendance on April 8, 2022.  Petersen was the first (and still currently is the only) goalie to reach the NHL after playing in Waterloo.  He debuted with the L.A. Kings and spent the past couple of seasons in the Philadelphia Flyers' system.  As he opens this year with the Iowa Wild, there is precisely one Cal Petersen bobblehead on eBay.  The asking price is $65, and estimated delivery is four days or less.

Black Hawks Russia Jacket

Cal Petersen was part of the group which traveled to Russia for the 2012 Junior Club World Cup.  This is probably NOT his jacket; since Cal is 6-2, a "Large" probably wouldn't have given him enough sleeve length.  Nonetheless, this warm-up is distinctive for the modified Waterloo logo the team wore to the tournament.  Considering that jerseys from this event were sold for $1,000, the $36 price for the windbreaker isn't bad.  If a "Large" is the right size.

Vinnie Hinostroza Chicago Blackhawks Practice Jersey

Vinnie Hinostroza was also on the Russia trip, then made it to the NHL initially with the Chicago Blackhawks.  He scored his first NHL goal on November 19, 2016 and has gone on to play for six other National Hockey League clubs.  Currently he has a home with the Minnesota Wild after being claimed on waivers last season.  This sweater harkens back to his Chicago days and lists at $199.  Perhaps its worth an offer, just for Vinnie's contribution to bringing back a silver medal from Omsk.

Brandon Montour Kraken Gloves

While we're on the subject of on-ice equipment, these Brandon Montour gloves caught our attention.  Montour has played for the Anaheim Ducks, Buffalo Sabres, Florida Panthers, and Seattle Kraken.  We're pretty confident we know which club these came from.  With "MONTOUR" embroidered on the wrist, there's certainly not much question who they were intended for.  It's up to you to decide how to display a $350 pair of gloves…or just wear them to work like you are the Incredible Hulk.

Andrew Alberts Ticket Stub

Andrew Alberts had a steady NHL career after spending two seasons with the Black Hawks, then going to school at Boston College.  The Vancouver Canucks were Alberts' last stop as he skated in over 450 total games.  During the 2012 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Vancouver was the top seed in the Western Conference, and Alberts would have been featured on a ticket for Game Two during the second round.  But that game never happened, because the Canucks were upset during their opening series by the eventual champion L.A. Kings.  The unused ticket is available for $25.

1976 McElroy Auditorium Ticket Stub

By all appearances this ticket was definitely used.  The Central Wisconsin Flyers came to McElroy for the last time on the final night of February.  Whoever was sitting in Section H, Row 3, Seat 14 saw the Black Hawks win 9-5 on the strength of a four-goal third period.  Mike Farina had four goals himself during the course of the night and added a couple of assists as well.  This half ticket is listed for $35, plus another $5 for shipping.  On the other hand, you could get two brand new tickets in mint condition for less than that AND get to see this Friday's game against Muskegon as an added bonus.

Where Are They Now features are presented by Karen's Print Rite, 2515 Falls Avenue in Waterloo.
