Kevin Reidler made 28 saves to lead the Dubuque Fighting Saints to a 2-0 win at Young Arena against the Waterloo Black Hawks on Tuesday.
Erik Pahlsson and Beckett Hendrickson each had a goal and an assist. Dubuque's win gives the Fighting Saints the season series by virtue of a 10-6 lead in head-to-head standings points. The teams will meet for the eighth and final time on April 12th.
More than half of Tuesday's game was played with no score before the Fighting Saints found the net twice within a three-minute span. The opening goal came at 11:16 of the second. Seamus Powell was below the icing line and set up Erik Pahlsson on the doorstep. Then early on Dubuque's next power play, Beckett Hendrickson received a pass near the edge of the crease and slung his chance inside the opposite post to make it 2-0 at 14:04.
The Hawks had four power plays from the late second through the end of regulation but could not conjure up a special teams goal. The best chance to break Reidler's shutout came in the latter part of the third period when the netminder stopped Jackson Nevers with a butterfly save on a breakaway from the blue line.
Tuesday's game was the first time the Hawks have been shutout at Young Arena since a 4-0 defeat by the Omaha Lancers on March 25, 2023.
The Lancers are the next opponent to visit Waterloo when they come to Commercial Street at 7:05 p.m. on Friday. Good seats are currently available from tickets.waterlooblackhawks.com or by calling the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680.
