Yan Shostak stopped all 40 Waterloo Black Hawks shots to shepherd the Lincoln Stars to a Game One win at Young Arena during an opening round series in the USHL Clark Cup Playoffs.
Shostak did not have a shutout during the regular season. Monday's save count matched his largest total as a member of the Stars, achieved in a 5-4 December 29th win against the Omaha Lancers.
Jack Pechar scored the only goal of Game One. At 8:05 of the second, he was at the inside edge of the right circle and redirected a low shot from Ethan Weber past Calvin Vachon's stick side.
Waterloo outshot Lincoln in every period and by a final count of 40-27. The Hawks had the game's only two power plays, both coming in the time after Pechar's goal. Waterloo was turned away once in the mid-second, then again in the third.
The Hawks must win Game Two on Tuesday night to force a third and decisive game in the series on Wednesday.
Tuesday's game begins at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are just $5 for most seats and are available by calling the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680 or via tickets.waterlooblackhawks.com.
