The Waterloo Black Hawks scored four times after the midpoint of Friday's game, and the Omaha Lancers didn't score at all at Liberty First Credit Union Arena Friday during a 4-0 decision.
Calvin Vachon made 22 saves for his second shutout of the season. He had also delivered a perfect performance on Thanksgiving versus the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders.
Fifteen of the Lancers' shots came in the second period while the game was still in the balance.
Waterloo killed three Lancers power plays before going to their first advantage in the middle of the second. That power play became a five-on-three, and although the Hawks didn't score on the two-man advantage, Gavyn Thoreson did squeeze a shot between the post and Lucas Szyszka's skate during a five-on-four situation at 10:20.
Myles Hilman built the lead by forcing an offensive zone turnover at 16:40. Between the circles one-on-one against Szyszka, Hilman found the net inside the post to the goaltender's left.
Waterloo's other two goals were separated by 36 seconds early in the third period. Grady Deering planted the first of them at 3:30, burying the rebound of Chase Jette's transition wrister. On the next shift, John Mustard sprang Teddy Townsend for a breakaway score, pinpointing a shot on the short side.
The Black Hawks' final game before Christmas is on Saturday in Des Moines at Buccaneer Arena beginning at 6 p.m.
