Battle the Black Hawks VI

Fun for a Cause at Maple Lanes November 20th

11/7/2022 1:57:00 PM

Maple Lanes will host the "Battle the Black Hawks" bowling event and fundraiser on Sunday, November 20th from noon to 2 p.m., the Waterloo Black Hawks announced Monday.

It has been nearly three years since fans and Black Hawks players last matched their bowling skills in November of 2019.  In the meantime, Maple Lanes has been completely reimagined following a fire in early 2020.  The facility features a new Kingpin Social Bar and Restaurant, new games and activities, plus a new layout providing easier access to bowling area.  As in past years, Battle the Black Hawks is being held to benefit Iowa Heartland Habitat for Humanity.  Learn more about the organization online at WeBuildHabitat.org.

"Battle the Black Hawks is a fun way to give our fans the chance to meet our players, and these opportunities were limited by COVID-19 over the last few seasons," said Black Hawks President of Business Operations Joe Greene.  "It is great timing to be able to return to some of the events fans have enjoyed at the same time Maple Lanes is offering more amenities than ever.  Anyone who hasn't been there since their re-opening is really going to enjoy the experience."

Battle the Black Hawks is based on a Battle of the Lanes Mad Game which is part of the Maple Lanes scoring system.  Participants on adjoining lanes try to knock down as many pins as possible, which corresponds with the size of a rock catapulted at a castle on the opposing team's scoring screen.  The first team to flatten their opponent's castle wins.  Teams of two or three Black Hawks players will faceoff against teams of fans.  Players will rotate throughout the event so participants will be able to interact with the entire Waterloo roster throughout the day.

Sign-up is $20 for adults and $15 for kids age 18 and under and includes shoe rental.  Registration begins Monday, November 7th at the Black Hawks' Young Arena office or during home games at the Fan Service table.  Participants can also register on the morning of the event, starting at 11:30.  Maple Lanes is located at 2608 University Avenue.

Between now and the Battle the Black Hawks event, the Hawks play four home games: November 11th and 12th versus the Tri-City Storm and November 18th and 19th against the Lincoln Stars.  Good seats are available from tickets.waterlooblackhawks.com or by calling the Domino's Black Hawks Box Office at (319) 291-7680.
