Karen’s Print Rite presents an update on top performances by former Black Hawks each week with the Alumni Three Stars of the Week feature.
#3 – Jordan Samuels-Thomas
San Diego Gulls (AHL) • Forward
Over the past week, Samuels-Thomas has recorded a goal each of the three times he has taken the ice, adding an assist for four total points. His goal during the third period last Friday versus the Ontario Reign helped to push the score toward an eventually victorious 4-1 final. He scored the third goal again during a 4-0 home win two days later versus the Bakersfield Condors. In one final win – 5-1 on Tuesday versus the Iowa Wild – Samuels-Thomas had a goal and an assist. He now has 16 points, including 10 goals, in 34 games this winter.
#2 – Joe Pavelski
San Jose Sharks (NHL) • Forward
Pavelski had one of his most productive games of the season on Wednesday versus the Florida Panthers. During the high-scoring matchup, he assisted on two of San Jose’s first three goals. However, the Sharks found themselves trailing, 5-3, during the final four minutes of regulation. Pavelski’s 19th and 20th goals of the season erased the deficit. Although San Jose ultimately fell 6-5 in overtime, the captain’s late outburst helped the team earn a point. Adding an assist from Sunday’s game versus the New Jersey Devils, Pavelski had five points over four appearances; he is up to 52 points this season.
#1 – Zach Sanford
Washington Capitals/Hershey Bears (NHL/AHL) • Forward
Hosting the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday, Sanford scored his first National Hockey League goal during the final minutes of the third period to break a 4-4 tie. The goal stood up, and the Caps added one more late tally for a 6-4 win. After the game, the rookie forward was returned to Washington’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Hersey Bears. Undaunted and back on the ice the next day, Sanford scored twice during a 5-4 loss to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. In just 25 AHL games, Sanford has 11 goals. He has made 21 NHL appearances for Washington.
